The yoga of Christmas

December 20, 2011

I clicked onto Facebook just now and discovered a link a friend had shared to a blog post about Jesus as yogi. Well, Halle-freakin-luia! So many people seem to find the fact that I am a catholic who studies yoga (both on & off the mat) somehow incongruous… News flash, peeps: my engagement with one spiritual practice actually serves to reinforce the other, in the very best of ways! Yoga makes so much more sense to me because of my faith – not despite it – and it is often in the midst of a yoga practice that I feel my faith come alive, so aware I am of God’s loving presence in our world. That being the case, thank you so much, Philip Goldberg, for writing this fantastic article that I am SO so so very excited to share here.

Happy Birthday, Guru Jesus.

A Mother’s Christmas Prayer

December 11, 2011

So here we are, smack dab in the middle of the most wonderful time of the year, and I’ve been so caught up in this, that, and the other that don’t you know I almost let myself give up on actually enjoying the winter holidays this year?

I said almost.

Luckily, the past week has been filled with little reminders… reminders to BREATHE… to practice mindfulness… to create space for the magic of this season to unfold… to BELIEVE.

A friend in the moms’ group that I’m a part of at church shared a wonderful piece at our meeting the other day, something so good that I can’t NOT pass it along. (In case, like me, you might be in need of a little reminder.)

Yes, Virginia, there IS a blog at this site

I’m back!!! Didja miss me? :)

So maybe it wasn’t actually the best idea to launch a Christmas-themed blog in the days leading up to Christmas… Lots of food for thought, for sure, but not as much time to actually indulge, evidently. There have been many times this past week when I’ve been itching to get a new post up here, but chose to act out my love of Christmas, rather than just write about it. Mea culpa. I promise to pull some goodies out of my treasure trove of Christmasy delights ASAP… hopefully before the close of business today… at least a new ornament of the day, how about? Will that be enough to satisfy, at least for now? I might even be able to share some of the other stuff that diverted my attention — distractions in the form of a small-town parade, big-name charity toy drive, and a broken arm (thankfully not mine!), to name a few — if I can ever carve out enough time. Do you think it would be too much to ask Santa to add an extra hour to every day?

Well, we’re movin’ on up

We have comments! And subscribers!!! HOLLA!

Here we are, live in the blogosphere!

Welcome to my little corner of the virtual world, where holiday songs (the GOOD ones) are in permanent rotation and twinkly lights are de rigeur.  I truly believe, as the song tells us, that Christmastime is the most wonderful time of the year. We take the time to be good to one another. We take the time to celebrate one another. We take the time to share our time with one another… which may or may not be a good thing, depending on where you are or who you’re with.

But enough navel-gazing, let’s get on to the good stuff. The STUFF! Good, bad, or ugly, I can’t get enough of all the Christmas STUFF that materializes as we anticipate the winter holidays. If you, like me, find yourself captivated by all of the many things that come out of the woodwork as December 25th approaches, then be sure to check in here every now and again, as I’ll be cobbling together a collection of some of my favorite things this holiday season.

Get ready to get your merry on!
